Challenges and solutions
The decarbonisation of road transport and the associated achievement of climate targets in the transport sector require the use of zero-emission vehicles. The automotive industry does not only offer emission-free cars, but also makes an active contribution to climate protection through the electrification of the light (N1) and heavy (N2) van segment. In order not to jeopardize the successful ramp-up of electric vans, a legal framework is required that ensures the same competitive conditions for zero-emission N1- and N2-vehicles as applied to conventional vans with internal combustion engines. Especially the requirements for the speedometer and the tachograph needs to be amended for electric vehicles of category N2 up to 4.25 tonnes.
