An end to microsleep
A situation that can end fatally: The tired driver's eyes fall shut, microsleep sets in. Now Infineon's 3D sensor detects this dangerous condition and initiates an effective wake-up maneuver. The sensor also makes it possible to control operating functions via gestures, unlocking the car via facial recognition or parking it autonomously – even in the dark or in strong sunlight.
Further development is ongoing: The sensor is to become much smaller and compatible for use with smart airbags. These will recognize how many adults or children need to be protected and deploy accordingly, depending on size, seating, or resting position, and whether in a child seat or not.
The 3D sensor is an all-rounder: It can be used for wake-up maneuvers, autonomous parking, as well as gesture and face recognition.
