Thermal management for emission-free heating and air conditioning of electric buses
The Ecological Mobile CO₂ System (EmCO₂s) is a cooling and heating system for electric buses that operates entirely without climate-damaging chemical refrigerants. With zero emissions, the annual energy consumption for cooling and heating is reduced by over 50%. The system draws up to 75% of the heat or cold it needs not from fossil fuel or electricity, but from the ambient air, making it highly efficient. In the field of electric mobility (e-mobility), efficient air conditioning is crucial because the energy saved from the batteries can be used for a much longer range. Konvekta is the discoverer and developer of the first vehicle air conditioning system that operates as a heat pump with the environmentally friendly refrigerant R744 (CO₂).
The heat pump is the most effective heating technology in the field of e-mobility, because it obtains heat not from a fuel or through electricity, but from the ambient air.
Invented by Michael Sonnekalb and R&D team as well as Björn Kern with Sebastian Fink and Team TKD at Konvekta AG.
